POSITION: Equipment Operator (Streets Division)

JOB SUMMARY: Operate light and medium-sized equipment and perform manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance and repair of city streets/roads, drainage systems, right-of-way areas, parking lots, parks, recreation facilities, grounds areas, or other area of assignment. Emphasis in on the operation of trucks, tractors, and other equipment where driving and maneuvering the vehicle constitutes most of the work required to complete tasks; incumbents may occasionally operate equipment at higher levels, but not as their primary work function.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Conducts daily inspections of assigned equipment to ensure that equipment is in safe and proper operating condition;
  2. Drives assigned equipment to and from designated work sites; operates tractors, lawn mowers, dump trucks, and/or other light equipment in the completion of assigned landscaping and other related tasks;
  3. Performs duties of a Crew Worker and other related work as assigned; and
  4. May serve as Crew Leader over a group of Crew Workers at assigned work sites.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

  1. High School Diploma (or GED equivalent);
  2. Must have a minimum of six months previous experience and/or training that includes construction work or equipment operation, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job;
  3. Must possess a current, valid Georgia COMMERCIAL Driver’s License (CDL) with a good driver’s history;
  4. Must possess and maintain (or obtain within six months of hire) a valid Flagging certificate;
  5. Must successfully pass criminal background and Motor Vehicle/DOT checks;
  6. Must be 18 years of age or older; and
  7. Must successfully pass post-offer drug screening and pre-employment physical;

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (40-hour work week) plus rotating on-call and after-hours and weekend call-ins for core Public Works duties, as needed.
