Theft of Public Utilities is Illegal

When someone steals public utilities from the City of Hogansville, they’re stealing from their neighbors! That’s because legitimate customers bear the cost of utility theft. Hogansville Police made an arrest today for utility theft and other charges after they found spliced power and water lines servicing several structures in the 100 block of Poplar Street. Utility theft and meter tampering are illegal and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The city has stepped up its efforts to deter utility theft and is auditing nonexistent customers. If you suspect theft of public utilities – including water, electric, natural gas and unmetered use of fire hydrants – please call 706-637-6648.
